Things Fall Apart Question 10

Reflect on the creation of your "Infomercial" yesterday and analyze/discuss:

Why would this decision be incredibly challenging for a individual? Why would this be incredibly challenging for the larger community?

I think it would be hard for a individual to change because others may reject him or feel that he is stupid. They may not as a person completely agree to the switching and new traditions, also you may have to learn a completely new language which is hard. Also the old ideas of the traditions are stuck in your head. The people have lived differently and so they might feel strange doing the things that they normally would never do. You have to learn new things and you have to change a whole lot of your beliefs. Your reputation is on stake like if you had 3 titles, you may lose them all. You also lose your personal ideals- like in the story we read during the summer about how the girl does not like the name and when she leaves school she leaves it behind. There is danger to switch because there is personal danger and people can get harmed easily. There is also a we/they mentality and you don't know who to trust. People start to question.

I think it would be challenging because the community as a whole would have problems accepting the new traditions and the whole village or community would have to accept it. Not only that but the ways of living would be changed completely. The community divides and fractures and people do not agree. There is a whole lot of community disagreement and that people even inside the one culture they all disagree and they all have reasons to why they hate the other side. It transforms or kills the whole culture if it is too fast. The more people they lose- the more power the other side gains. This is why the missionaries want to go to the outcasts and others. There is also rivalry. Traditions are lost and that really affects the community like if a justice system is not usable anymore then what do you do when you need a new one? You also needed the laws and things to keep people in order.
